Working Groups

The AAA policy and advocacy program is led by its Working Groups and Forums which are made up of members of the AAA and directly contribute to the work of the Association.

The AAA has Working Groups and Forums in the following areas:




  • This is a new AAA Working Group that is currently under formation. More information will be available shortly.


  • The AAA Emergency Management Forum (EMF) reviews existing and provides recommendations in regards to the development of new strategies and arrangements to address the emergency response and disaster management risks to airport operations.

    Chairman: Bill Chapman, Mildura Airport, AAA SA Division Chair.


  • This is a new AAA Networking Group that is currently under formation. More information will be available shortly.


  • The AAA Major CEO Forum creates opportunities for the leaders of major airports to consider the issues impacting the airport sector.

    Chairman: Stephen Byron, Canberra Airport.


  • The AAA Corporate Affairs Working Group provides airports with an opportunity to discuss and collaborate on Government policies and regulations impacting the industry.

    Chairman: Sally Fielke, Sydney Airport.


  • The AAA Major Airports Security Working Group (MASWG) provides major airports an opportunity to discuss and collaborate on security related Government policies and regulations impacting the industry.

    Chairman: Stephen Goodwin, Brisbane Airport.


  • The AAA Pavements Working Group (PWG) reviews existing policies and develops recommendations in relation to airport and aerodrome technical processes and procedures. The Working Group also addresses issues such as standards with regards to infrastructure and equipment necessary for airports and aerodromes to meet airside and landside requirements to be serviceable from a regulatory point of view.

    Chairman: Paul Rubsov, Sydney Airport.


  • The AAA Planning Committee provides advice to industry on planning regulation. The Planning Committee reviews existing strategies and arrangements relating to the planning needs of airports. Where appropriate the Committee considers and provides comments to members on new and emerging strategies relating to land use planning around airports, airport infrastructure planning, airspace and airport master planning.

    The Committee also addresses issues such as town planning, council, state and federal planning laws, safeguarding of airports from incompatible land use in its vicinity and identifying best practice planning strategies.

  • The AAA Regional Airports Security Committee (RASC) provides regional airports an opportunity to discuss and collaborate on security related Government policies and regulations impacting the industry.

    Chairman: Bill Chapman, Mildura Airport, AAA South Australia Director.


  • This is a new Networking Group that is currently under formation. More information will be provided shortly.

  • The AAA Small Regional Aerodrome Networking Group (SRANG) provides opportunities for regional aerodromes to gather, network and discuss issues facing their operations.

    Chairman: Nat Thomas, Halls Creek Aerodrome, AAA Small Regional Airport Director.


  • The AAA Standards Working Group (SWG) reviews and makes recommendations in regards to the development of airport and aerodrome regulatory standards. The main focus of the SWG is based on regulations prescribed (or to be prescribed) by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

    Chairman: Nat Thomas, Halls Creek Aerodrome, AAA Small Regional Airport Director.


  • The purpose of the Wildlife Working Group (WWG) is to review existing, and where appropriate consider and/or recommend and communicate new or existing Airport and Aerodrome technical processes, procedures, and standards with regards to aviation wildlife hazard management.

    Chairman: Chris Fox, Perth Airport.
